I bought a single action .44 mag revolver a couple of weeks ago. That sucker will get your attention when you squeeze the trigger with mag loads in it. I've been using .44 Specials for target shooting.
I'm thinking of trying deer hunting with it this fall. To be legal for deer hunting in Nebraska, a handgun needs to produce 400 pounds of energy at 50 yards. With the exception of my .357 mag, all of my other handguns, .44's and .45's come just under 400. I have smaller ones that don't come close. The .357 mag is about 525 and the .44 mag is around 735.
Interestingly enough, I do my most accurate handgun shooting with a replica of an 1851 Confederate Navy .44 cap and ball, and I qualified "Sharpshooter" with the .45 auto in the Marine Corps.
I used to hang a target on a 6" fence post in back of my shop till I shot the post in two.
