Our fire trucks were out on a call tue night.I turned on the scanner.They found a smouldering fire in a chair that had been started by a magnifying glass.My son was working on a job where he smelled smoke when leaving for the day.He found a magnifying glass standing in a can of pens.There was a line burned in wall paneling.The wood was glowing red where the sun focused the beam on the wall.I did fire reports for many years for our dept.Never found a magnifying glass as the cause.Battery chargers were a common fire cause.I had a lot of trouble with Country way ins co last summer.They tried to cancel me last year because the house needed paint and some moss was growing on asphalt shingles.I was working on my mowing tractor so I could get my hay in so paid to get the house painted.My wife used money she had saved for this winters heating oil.the state ins commisson stopped Countryway from canceling our ins.The stress made my blood pressure shoot up so high my wife took me into the emergency room.Ive tried to find a new ins co, few ins co will write farm ins here.Farm Bureau turned me down because the house has fuses instead of circuit breakers.I did fire reports where FPE breakers failed to trip.Ins co are scum ..Meds got my pressure down to a safe level.Im going to docs for a check up today.I had ins with the same ins co for 35 years with no problems.Co stopped writing Farm policies so I went with Agway ins, no problems until agway sold out to Countryway.Agway sent all their customers 500.00 after the 98 ice storm even though they didnt file any claims.I did have ice slid off the barn roof that made holes in the building beside it so the money was welcome.Countryway has given me nothing but trouble.I did send photos of circuit breakers that failed to trip and started fires to the Farm Bureau agent that refused to ins me.When I bought this place 42 years ago I called a local agent.He came to see me and gave me a policy that covered the house and my TV shop and contents for 60.00.No BS.After he pas sed on his son took over, No Bs for 35 years.
