This is one area where I find the official tests to be about useless. Those numbers come from a full power pull on a dyno. In real world conditions where you may be running at less than full power or loafing along at less than rated speed, I've never seen that the Deere gives you much if any break on fuel consumption, The Ford will. At full power the Deere is probably better; especially the 50 series and beyond, until Ford introduced the Genesis engine. Deere only caught up to that a couple years ago. At the end of the day the guy that's buying the fuel only cares about how many gallons went through the tank to get the job done, not what numbers the tractor could make on a dyno. I've got neighbours on each side of me who do a lot of their work with 40 series Deere's (3130's, 3140's and 4440), and they are bot forever complaining about how much fuel those things burn. They either have or have had Fords and David Brown's in the past that burnt less fuel, so I don't think it's their imaginations....
