My wife had quadruple bypass surgery four years ago. She said too the scariest part of the whole deal was a 25 mile ride in an ambulance at 2am. She said she could have been in the back of our renter's tandem axle "Binder" farm truck and gotten a better ride.
Also, I made the mistake of trying to keep up with the ambulance. We hadn't gotten out of town before I had two local police cars on my tail with the cherries lit. All I could do was pull over. The cops were real decent about it. One asked if I was following the ambulance. I replied I was. He asked if I knew where the ambulance was going. Again, I said, "Yes". The cop then said, "Don't try to keep up with the ambulance, you won't do it. Get going, but cool it a bit".
The good news was, my wife survived it good shape, and out of a bill for over $100,000, our insurance paid all but $1,100.
