Disregarding the cr2p that has emerged there was another reason,I have heard, for the stripes and it fits in with the last para by "Goose". That being it was thought up by Edgell Ford. It was said , in the 1970's , he had a Ford that was a slow seller ,but had the same shape as a musclecar,so he came up with the idea of stripes, whether it was an original idea or borrowed we may never know.Incidentially it turned out to be a winner.Hence them coming out of the factory so painted.
