See your point exactly. Understand the .6 or .7 voltage drop in silicon diode, called biasing voltage if I remember right. But, if we're gonna have to use 7/15 amp diodes,why not use one avalanche or zener diode instead? You can get them in any voltage. Or better yet, why not build a basic voltage regulator consisting of one VR pot, one solid resistor and that LM317K voltage regulator chip (adjustable) from Radio Shack? Then we will only lack in current, this'll make about 3 amps with a heat sink on the regulator. With a 2N3055 pass transistor (heat sinked) it should be more than adequate for charging 8 volt battery. Let me hear your opinion. We could make schematic of the correct circuitry and scan it and post it for everyones use. Take your tail out of at least one hand and let us hear from you. Some have been hurt on this subject and it needs some expertise.
