As mentioned by others, thats probably a bit much for an 8n. 5' is probably the correct size. I know a lot of people that comfortably run a 5' mower behind a tractors that have 23 pto hp.
I run a 6' mower behind my Case DC (40hp), under almost any conditions. I also run that same mower behind a John Deere B (27hp) without any issues, just need to go slower through the heavy stuff.
As for going price, it all depends on condition. I don't think $500-$1000 would be unresonable for an older machine. I have seen several 5' mowers sell for under $150 so far this year.
Make sure you put an over-running clutch on the tractor. If you were to use a trailer style mower (not connected to a 3pt hitch drawbar) any steering issues would disappear. Good luck.
