JM- see this occasionally- Inboard CV splines slide into trans and is captured by a wire c-clip. Sometimes under full suspension droop (like when the car is lifted) the wire clip pulls out of it's groove and the splines of the axle disengage from the trans. Since it's an open rear , the car doesn't move- it will occasionally pop or jerk forward as the splines get minimal contact. Probably do not need a new trans, matbe not even a new axle. Loosen the outboard CV joint nut almost all the way out, put a 2x4 over it and wack it with a hammer. Hand Torque the nut and see if it doesn't work for ya.
