I shoot them with the 12 gauge, and also destroy any nests I find on my property. I hate magpies too!
I put my dog's dish inside her dog house, and occasionally I find a dead magpie inside her pen. The dog will not eat magpies, so they must REALLY taste and smell bad, considering some of the other things the dog WILL eat! I feed my cats inside an animal carrier inside a shed. The cats do not seem to want to tangle with magpies, but after I covered the animal carrier with a blanket, except for the small opening for the cats, the magpies apparently are afraid to enter the carrier.
