I owned a '79 F100 with 351 Engine that got 7.0 MPG when I bought it. Did everything I could think of to improve economy. Nothing helped. Then one day I decided to re-check the timing advance in the distributor. Found out the centrifical weights were gummed up and stuck. Would not move.
Cleaned out the distributor, lubricated it, and then it would get 14 MPG. Sometimes the simple things do the most good.
