I had a 90 Dodge full size pickup with that engine. It always had a click on idle. I never could get it to stop either. One thing I did find is the block of material in the converter was loose and could slide back and forth. I ended up breaking it out. It improved performance but didn't get rid of the click. I drove that truck over 100,000 miles before I sold it. It's still running as I see it around from time to time.
