At a minimum, you'll need a test lamp.
I'd want a VOm as well.
Find your incoming power wie to the key switch , and then check to make sur ethat you get power at the secondary connections, depending what position the key was in..
check at the solenoid to see that it is getting power when it is suposed to... ( I like to disconnect the solenoid to starter connection if possible when making my checks.. some models you can. some you can't.
A schematic of the fuse panel ( if present ).. or dash and wireing, and the key switch and the start circuit will be very helpfull in your diagnostics.
