Few days ago, I posted a request for help getting my hayrake back together. I lost a bearing on one of the tooth bars, and it wouldn't line up for reassembly. Got back at it today. On the advice of a poster, I loosened all the other bearings. Not an easy job, as the head of the bolt is in the cup on the end of the tooth bar. All there is - is a screwdriver slot in the thread end of the bolt. I used by impact wrench, kept tapping the nut in short bursts on and off until the nut finally came off. Due to rust and damage on end of the threads, nuts were difficult to get loose. Took three tractors to get the job done. First tractor held the rake in place - on 3pt hitch. (rake is a 3pt.) Two other tractors were placed on the ends of the rake. Chains and come-alongs on the star wheel, anchored to the tractors, allowed me to pull the star wheels enough to almost line up. A vice grip chain pliers, and a lot of gentle tapping with a brass hammer brought the bearing shaft thru the hole in the star wheel enough to get a nut on it and pull it home. While I had all the nuts loose, I greased all the threads, so maybe they won't be so tough next time, which I hope there isn't! (Wishful thinking.) Found that there is a generic bearing that will fit - just add your own 3/4" bolt, and a proper spacer!
