I use a heavy duty Jacobsen 7 reel mower. It came from a local college and I paid $200 at auction. It is far superior to the smaller type reel as sold by northern hydraulics. These units are now obsolete with golf courses because they have been replaced by hydraulic motor driven reels. You should be able to pick up a nice unit from a local golf course or park department for under $500. For that price it should have a fresh sharpening. My Farmall Cub will pull it in second gear on level ground. I have also pulled it with a Farmall MTA in top gear (16 MPH). As long as it doesn't get air-borne and bounce, any reasonable speed will work. Your lawn has to be clean; no twigs or rocks. It will cut wet grass but you may have a traction problem going uphill. Grass over six to seven inches is a problem. The only drawback is it cannot be backed up more than two feet and consequently it is hard to put it in a shed. I think my gang reel cuts 10 feet.
