Been through the same thing. I was looking for a good 65hp tractor. Looked at many, but most were either beat to death, or good but priced way high. Example:1976 JD2630, new paint, 75% tires, 4,200 original hours, $10,500. Most greens AND reds were in that price range for that size and condition. Other colors were not quite as high, but close. Seems that size tractor is in great demand around here. So, I settled on a 1966 JD4020 in good condition with 5600 hours for $8500. The dealer had rebuilt the rockshaft, the starter and the generator (plus converted it from 24V to 12V), put on a new water pump, and threw in new seat cushions. The engine has a little blow-by developing, but since I'm pulling equipment designed for a tractor 25 hp smaller, this hasn't yet been a problem.

Elliott said while this
