I have a 1959 Series I AC D-17. The Power Booster Gauge and Operation Meter both function but have what appears to be oil in them. An older tractor mechanic told me he had seen a few instruments with oil in them to prevent dust and moisture contamination while sitting outside but could not remember the makes of the tractors involved.
Question 1: Is this a lubricant of a contaminant??? Question 2: Since replacement is fairly expensive, is there a way to remove the liquid and clean these gauges, assuming they should be dry, short of prying off the collar to entirely disassemble them or drilling the cases and flushing the liquid with solvents???
