AD he sounds like a newbie, might be best if he didn't try starting by shorting across the starter terminals. You and I been around long enough to get away with it, but you never know when someone's going to leave the tranny in gear and get run over. I'd call the dealer if it's a new tractor in warranty, let them worry with it!
