I feel bad about this, kinda sorta'. I've been overseeing the unloading of $8+ a bushel corn, $12+ a bushel wheat $1,200 a ton lamb meal $800 a ton poultry meal and a whole list of other bulk commodities that have doubled and trippled in price in the past year. But as such I'm seeing a lot less of it now. The premium petfood business is about flat like everything else now and will likely stay that way until people start seeing the effects of the Walmart and other store brands have on the health of their pets. At least now that the ethanol iniative is crash landing because petrolium prices are also crashing, maybe a bushel of corn will come back down where I can burn corn in my boiler. Several folks I know at least took the advice of a few old timers around here and made more hay than corn as hay will likely be short this year because many looked to get rich quick putting their fields into corn.
