Even in the City... I've been working on rebuilding a disc. Had all the gangs off of it. Replaced a couple of bearings, fixed the disc scrapers and such. Got it all back together but didn't have enough horsepower to adequately tighten the big nuts on the gangs. There is a place that repairs big road trucks about a mile from my house. So I hooked the disc to the tractor and ran it on down there during working hours. I pulled just inside the door, dropped the dicc down and shut the tractor off. The mechanics all watched me come in but then got back to their work. The tire kid was the closest person so I asked him if there was someone who could use a big impact wrench and tighten down my gangs. He looked around a little confused and didn't see anyone offering advice. So he just shrugged and walked over to get the 1" impact wrench that they use for changing tires. Lucky for me the 1 1/2" socket that fits truck wheels also fit my disc. He managed to get one of the gangs snugged up before the whole bunch of mechanics gathered round to supervise. The kid tightened them all down good and snug. I thanked him, had a few $ in my shirt pocket and offered them. To the coffee fund if nothing else... They all just waved me off. My tractor isn't pretty or fancy or anything. But I know all those fellows were glad I stopped by. Just for the diversion. I know it didn't hurt the kid's reputation either. For knowing the right thing to do.
