Trying to help my dad research

Hi there. My dad recently acquired an old Catepillar D2 tractor and wanted to find out more about it. Since he won't go near the Internet, I told him I would try to help. The model number is 4u849. Dad thinks that the tractor is probably pre-1960. Can you give me an idea on where to start looking? We would appreciate it. Thank you.
