farmall A bronzed sheetmetal

I've been stripping the paint off my 1946 Farmall A. When I get down to the bare sheetmetal, it looks like it is a bronze. When I hit it a little more with a wire brush wheel, it strips the bronze off and looks like the normal sheetmetal. This is not a coat of paint but is part of the steel and is only on the sheetmetal, none of the cast. Anyone have any ideas on this? Did they use a different kind of steel that year?
