Thanks, curious though, why is that, the repair is thick, neatly done, both sides of the rim at the old valve hole were built up and plugged, welds are not porous, can be ground, sanded and smoothed so it's the same (depressed flat area) shape as what was there before, you could drill the hole in the same spot, 7018 ought to be as strong as mild steel. Had to use care with the heat, but after a few passes the weld built up nicely, closed the hole, each pass chipped and wire brushed until filled, both sides of rim.
I guess the reason I am curious is because the hole placed in another location will not have the depressed (from inside) flat area for the valve stem, is that an issue or is just locating the hole in the same radius dia. as the original was located but using a different spot ok, for the valve/tube ?
The inside of the repaired area can be made to match the profile of the drop center rim ( the return bend in the edge of rim for the tire bead) no flat depressed area, same all the way around, or restored to the original shape, slight depression and flat. Don't matter, whatever works, but was wondering if that presents a chafing situation or similar with the tube, not having that same shape for the valve.
