Same thing with my 3020 many years ago. The rear engine mounting bolts are broken or loose. You'll notice the muffler 'waffles' in the hood hole, while the hood is still. Makes you think you are seeing things. First time it happened, I threaded for a larger bolt. Second time, I welded a stud in place, and then rebuilt the frame, going back to the axle with reinforced channel iron. Look in archives in the JD page for pix- fixed it over 20 years ago and has not been a problem since. I had neighbors that bought new engine blocks after threading larger broke again. My new frames also provide a nice long step on each side of the tractor.
