As Rob said, might be the IAC, they go bad and it "may" run fast. To eliminate a possible vacuum leak you have to trace EACH one to look for broken or brittle hoses. I had a fast idle(>1000 RPMs) on a "91 302 that had a bad intake manifold gasket, not that hard to fix. Go to autozone.com and look at their repair guides, they have excellent pics and decent repair info....for FREE!
