We had a discussion at work on trying to decide what the most important discovery man has made thru time. My choice was;
Magnetism, with out it where would we be, no electricity, no navigational instruments-compass, no starters on engines or electric ignition systems. They would all be diesel with crank or air starts.
Some said fire, steel-iron, discovery of oil.
One said all the wheels would stop turning if it waren't for oil. I said they would not start turning if it weren't for magnetism.
It takes fire to melt the steel and steel to be magnetized.
I really don't think there is just one most important discovery man has made because they all go hand and hand.
