Not where I worked. Of course, we had 2 paid "personal" days ["P-days"] and an unpaid "emergency" day ["E-day"] beyond the vacation days we could NOT schedule [summer shutdown and Christmas shutdown]...but after they instituted a $500 bonus for a year's perfect attendance, we had attendance percentages in the high 90's.
Of course, we still had a few people who abused their FMLA leave...so much so, that the unofficial words for the acronym were "Fire My Lazy Azz." Since FMLA days were unpaid, it really didn't make much sense to take them unless you really had an emergency...but some folks did anyway.
But they were distinctly in the minority.
In the 5 years I worked there, I got the attendance bonus 4 times. The 5th year, I was off for gall bladder surgery, and hadn't accumulated enough time afterwards when the plant closed.
