Define what is luxury to you? Is it leather seats and a nice looking interior?, if so then you can get most any car with those options now. If your definition of luxury is something prestigious like Like a Caddilac or Mercedes Benz then, I'd suggest buying slighty used because those models tend to hold their value better, but the new car buyer takes a sizeable loss.
I'd take a look at a Toyota Prius Hybrid if I was looking for a new car. The big 3 really don't have anything to compete with it in fuel economy, and while they might not be the best looking car on the road, they are affordable to run. I'd tell you to buy from the big three, but outside of their sports cars, I think their cars stink.
