What you might do is to fit a small piece of tubing to the inlet so you raise the intake point half an inch or so. That will help by not picking up so much crud off the bottom of the tank. I did that on a Farmall that had rust in the tank, and due to baffles, I was unable to get all the rust particles washed out. Only need to be sure you have an inch or more of fuel in the tank. Made my tube out of a piece of discarded car radio antenna. Just happened to fit nicely.
