Ole Frank, There is a product made especially for this. It is generally called "dye check" or "dye penetrate". You should be able to locate this at most welding supply houses. There is an old method that I have never used but seen done when I was a kid. Coat the suspected area with a light oil, ATF may work good, let it soak in. Wipe off the excessive oil. Then lightly dust the area with baby powder. The oil will bleed from the crack through the powder revealing the ends of the crack. Dye penetrate works better, besides the directions are on the cans. A word of caution! Being somewhat experienced in such matters, welding cast iron is a job best left to a welder with a lot of experience welding the various forms of cast irons. If this casting is of high value or rare ( same difference I guess )it is NOT a job for amateurs and should be left to a professional. Regards Earl in Indonesia
