Skip, if you put only the + wire on the coil and don't have the neg connected, do you have power coming at the neg side ? If you have power then, re-connect the neg wire and pull off the distributor cap, slowly turn the engine over and watch the points. When the points open, a test light should show power at the neg side of the coil. The points may be not opening, or you might have a short in the wire that goes thru the distributor body. One of these will probably be the problem, just sort it out with a test light and points open Hope this helps, Ron
