My old TV died in 2007...so when we bought a new one, we knew that DTV was coming and bought an HDTV so we could receive the digital signal. Anyone who bought an analog set after DTV was announced, as I see it, did the damage to themselves.
On analog, I had 4 commercail network stations, 1 independent, and 2 PBS outlets. On digital, my NBC affiliate has already staked out 3 digital channels; the CBS, ABC, FOX, and independent station have only staked out one channel each. The PBS outlet, which had two channels on analog, has 4 on digital. Plus, when the signal comes in, I receive another digital independent station that has 4 program channels.
So I've actually got more choices on DTV than I had on analog. No signal problems 99 percent of the time.
Mom, on the other hand, wouldn't get off the dime tosend for the coupon for the converter. So my wife sent for one, and gave it to her. Mom let it expire. Now that it's almost time to switch over, Mom's finally sent for a replacement coupon. I told her I'd connect the converter for her when she got it, but so far she doesn't have it yet. So I figure a failure to react in a timely manner on HER part does not necessarily constitute an emergency on MY part. I've tried to teach my kids about actions/lack of actions and consequences...never thought I'd have to start teaching a parent.
