Electrical Generator

I have a generator and starter that both have been rewound for 12v. They are on a positive ground system and the only thing they do is start the tractor. The ignition is magnito. This is an AC B. The generator charges for about 2 minutes and then stops charging as indicated by the ammeter. However after a few starts the battery will not turn over the starter until I recharge via a charger. There is a regulator in the system. The battery has been tested good under load. The generator and reg have tested good. Both of these test were made off the tractor. Any ideas? Rudy
