The old folks here make schnaps out of about everything. When I first moved here, I was working on a fence next to a guy's garden house/hideway. He had me stop for a beer and wanted me to try his homemade schnaps. Got out a box from a kind of little cave dug into the back side of his building with several bottles labeled peach, plum, strawberry, and a couple of others. Everything was 100 proof and tasted like mogas to me, but he could tell you which was which. I finished his little tasting trip and forgot all about the fence.
They have something called Federweiss in my area a few weeks out of the year. It's the stage that wine is sweat and kinda milky looking before it gets the nasty dry wine taste (I'm a Boones Farm kinda guy).
That stuff goes down like koolaid. You can set and drink it all day, but get up and move around a little and you feel something cold on your shoulder. Look up and it's the floor.
