: : Not vintage, but you guys seem pretty sharp to me so see if anyone can help with this one! I've got a chance to buy a 18HP B&S commercial, 1993 yr, Craftsman 44 in. HD Garden Tractor, garage kept, excellent cond. Widow wants to sell, doesn't know what to price for and I don't know and don't want to get either of us hurt. Anyone have a ballpark figure? Thanks from KY, USA. : : Danny : Craftsman, Murray, MTD, Estate - and the list goes on are not tractors, but riding lawn mowers. As such they work fine on lawns. As the proud owner of a Murray, much akin to the Sears, I have had the transmission apart 3 times, replaced it, rebuilt the mower deck, replaced the bendix drve. This led me to by a Ford 9N. : I have two acres of pretty rough yard and a 150' drive of snow to plow. : Long and short - for cutting yards - about 3/4 acre or so, it would be okay but beyond that, well. Also, you will wear these out pretty fast as there are plastic and metal bushings where others have bearings and sheet metal where others have castings. : Just beware of what you are buying -this is truly one area where you get what you pay for. : JerryU
