tlak may be on to something. If the seal is in the wrong way, or if the rear bushing is loose in the trans, too much fluid ends up in the area between the trans and T case. My old Explorer used to do that until I replaced the seals. I only had to do mine once. If I were looking at it, I would look closely at the rear trans bushing and input bearing on the transfer case.
