First off be shure the crank will release cleanly if the engine does start! Saw one go flying at a show once, not pretty! Also be sure it is in neutral. Be sure the spark is retarded (Set right on the dist and is working right), and stand clear of the handle incase it does kick back. I face the right side of the tractor use my right hand and pull 1/4 turns from 9 oclock to 12 oclock. I have the throttle set just a couple notches up from idle. If the engine likes some choke when starting I do that for 4 pulls with ign off, open choke back up some then turn on ign and crank it the 1/4 turns. NEVER grab the crank with both hands and try to spin it like a starter. If every thing is right with the engine, it will fire up with even gentle pulls. Pulling like a mad man will just wear you out.
