my dad had a 63 chevy 1/2 ton with a 283 and i think a powerglide.it had 145 bhp.it was a go anywhere truck.then he bought a 73 chevy 1/2 ton with a 350 an i believe a turbo hydramatic and posi-traction.this was in calif.and the emission bs.it was derated to 145 bhp just like the 283.I got it stuck one time and it couldnt even spin a tire.had to pull it out with a tractor.I would look for one with a 283
