If the tags are gone/unreadable, raise both rear wheels off the ground and count the number of turns of the drive shaft in 1 turn of both rear wheels. A 3.55 to 1 ratio would be slightly over 3 1/2 complete rotations of the drive shaft to 1 turn of the axle shafts. 5th gear is overdrive in most 5 speed transmissions.
