The 14.9 - 26 size means that the tire (when inflated) has a maximum width of 14.9", and of course it measures 26" across the diameter (middle) of the tire, inside to inside. Many of the older tires might have said 14.9 - 26, then follow this with a 12 or a 13 meaning 'on 12 inch (or 13 inch) wide rims'. I guess to mount a 16" tire on this unit would depend to some extent on the width of the rim. If you have 12" rims, it might be tight, while 13" might be OK. Check with a tractor tire outfit, they'd help you there. Also, don't forget there are clearances to consider, like for example fender location, that you have to contend with. The 16" might not make it if the fender is in the way.
