As I understand it in tractors made since the 80's there is essentially no difference. Mechanical Four Wheel Drive obviously is direct mechanical drive through a drive shaft. But the older HFWD was a hydraulic assist on the front wheels that was activated in addition to the rear driveline.

Essentially if the front and back wheels are running on the same system whether hydraulic or mechanical it is just 4wd. I am pretty sure that this is pretty much the case universally now.
