Dad had an Avery "A" that had to be hand cranked most of the time. Always put your thumb under the crank & pull up. I left it in gear once and it started on the first pull. When it came at me I stepped back, tripped, and I had a worms eye view of a BF Avery on the move! I'm glad it was in first gear. I never forgot to check after that. My brother restored Dad's tractor & takes it to shows every year.
