My drive is half-mile gravel, runs east-west here in Iowa. I used my tractor with chains and blade for the first year, and switched to a half ton truck and plow for the last 2 (don't even need chains). I won't switch back, unless it's for a tractor w/snow thrower and only for extremely heavy snow. It still wouldn't work for heavy wet stuff, where the truck works better. At least w/truck, you stay warm, and if necessary, you could plow several quick passes during a storm to keep from getting too far behind. It's just easier, and the kids get a kick out of riding along, especially late at night when we know school's cancelled and there's nothing else to do but stay warm and watch TV! Just my opinion..
