The best 40% efficient solar cells run at $1000.00per watt. So that's maybe 30ft2 on a large vehicle to obtain a whole screaming 400W after spending $1.2 million. Or going with standard photovoltaic cells with 15% efficiency, the cost will be $2250 to obtain 150W. Now wait for the 1st parking lot door ding to ruin 10% of the total capacity. 150W will run the radio, dash lights and HVAC fan. Next somebody is going to suggest storing the solar energy while the vehicle is parked. There still isn't enough power developed to amount to anything useful. Then how are you going to store the energy without adding weight, complexity and price? You are going to willingly pay an extra $25,000 on a vehicle to save $1000.00 over it’s lifetime?
