The shipping company is a private business. Those of you who think the US government has no business bailing out yet another private business--especially a business capable of hiring a private security firm that can operate in international waters--raise your hands.
A large percentage of the cargo was food aid provided by the United Nations. Those of you who think the US military has performed enough missions on behalf of the UN, and think that the UN needs to let some other nation take the burden on, raise your hand. [If you already raised one hand, you can now raise both hands.]
I would imagine that at this point there are a lot of you folks with both hands in the air. Now...those of you with both hands in the air...please stop talking out of both sides of your mouth by saying that the US needs to "do something" to "stand up to" these pirates, because you sound silly arguing against yourselves. Those of you who say that businesses need to stand or fall on their own need to get a grip and let this business stand or fall on its own, and decide whether it needs to hire additional security. T%hose of you who say the US has done enough police work on behalf of the UN need to get on the opther UN member nations to provide security for UN cargo, because you think the US has done enough, from Korea onward.
Those of you who believe in this way, but still contend that the US President needs to "do something," are nothing more than hypocrites.
Of course, if you believe that it's the duty of the US military to be worldwide policemen, then go ahead and complain that the US President hasn't done enough, because in that case you would be standing up for your core beliefs.
