Okay, If he has 3.75 in 1st gear as you say and has 3.55 in his rear end now. this will give him a total of 7.30 gear ratio between the engine and the drive axle in low gear.
If he has the 3.75 in 1st gear as you say and goes to a 4.11 rearend this will give him a total of 7.66 gear ratio between the engine and drive axle in low gear.
This is only a difference of 0.36 (This will add just a little over one third more of a revolution on the drive shaft). For every revolution of the drive shaft with the 3.55 rearend it will have to make 1.36 revolutions to go the same distance with the 4.11 rearend. I really doubt if it will be noticeable in power or gas mileage. I didn't in my 1987 GMC.
