Deep cycle batteries are intended for low current applications. They typically can't put out as much current as a "cranking" battery of the same size. On the other hand, their total storage capacity is higher. The deep cycle feature doesn't do anything for the "shelf life" of the battery.

Stick with a standard cranking battery.
