My father has an '98 2500 360 Auto that has a Fisher plow on it. The transmission went on it last year with about 60k. Not sure how common it is but his neighbor (pretty much the same truck but with a V10) lost his as well a few months eailer (it had more miles then dad's though).
Both are plow trucks, I don't think there's anything you can do to a pickup that's harder then plowing.
Dad's truck has been OK, not great not bad either. He also had some rust fixed last year on the read fenders.
