Next time it does that jump off real quickly and check the spark. It should be FAT AND BLUISH-WHITE, the color of lightning. If it's not or if it's non-existent, you found the problem. Do you have a 6v or a 12v system? If you have a 12V system, do you have a real 12V coil( like NAPA IC-14SB)? You could also have a bad key switch or a bad connection. Some of the Ford distributors had an insulator that the primary wire was attached to in the distributor that shorts out. If you have the requisite spark then check the fuel flow to the carb to make sure that you have a good supply to the carb. If you have a drain plug on the bottom of the carb, open it up and hold a conatiner under the carb. The fuel should continuously gush out like a cow peein' on flat rock. If it dribbles or is intermittent find out why.
