What is the proper name real farm fuel?

Today I was filling up my diesel fuel storage tank and noticed that the fuel that I was buying was just No. 2 with a dye. I am a hobby farmer and I am still learning about farm equipment. When I bought my tractor I was told to use farm fuel (high sulfur off road) for best results. What is the proper name or class for real farm fuel?
