You didn't say, is the M used regularly, and is getting rust deposits anyway, or had it been sitting for a while? If it's used regularly, I'd be mildly concerned about the rust. I'd guess you had a little water in there, which happens over time, especially if it's left outdoors. If it's been sitting, it is perfectly normal, and will go away if you use it and splash some of that perfume around.
